LESSONS LEARNED: LEND A HELPING HAND

San Diego gets an average of 41 days of rain per year, and today is one of them.  I was busy chasing bookkeeping deadlines when Gary noticed our neighbor (who is older than us and somewhat disabled) had fallen while trying to hook his towing dolly onto his motorhome.  Gary rushed out to pick him up and help with the dolly.  They then discovered the man’s car wouldn’t start, so Gary used our electric charger to boost it.

The man and his wife were only next door to us temporarily, until the site they will be parked in for the next 5 1/2 months became available.  Gary followed as they drove their motorhome and car to their new location. He noticed that the empty dolly swung outward and hit the wire fence as it rounded a curve.  Yikes!

Gary guided the man as he backed into the site, then helped him unhook the dolly and push it away from the motorhome. He learned this couple has been wintering in San Diego for nine years.

These people are from the state of Washington, so truly are our neighbors. They have visited Canada frequently, and friends from Kelowna will be joining them soon.

Perhaps we caught a glimpse of our future.  Maybe we’ll be able to do this for another 8 years. If we’re getting frail hopefully a good neighbor will come to our rescue when we’re in need of help. You might be the friends that join us here to enjoy the sun and surf.
